Monokel Eyewear is a unisex sunglass label based in Stockholm, Sweden. The main material in our frames is a premium plant-based acetate, and all-black frames are made with recycled acetate. The lenses are made by Carl Zeiss Vision®. Each frame is handcrafted with tremendous attention to detail in a process taking well over three months. Our brand philosophy stems from a mix of simplicity and functionalism, paired with an endless curiosity for the human mind and its need for creative expression.

Our new Pearl acetate is natures own version of white. It&rsquo;s softer, has a bit of transparancy to capture light and a slightly texturized matt surface. We&rsquo;ve made it in partnership with Mazzuchelli, the worlds most renowned acetate manufacturer, and it is (as always) entirely biodegradable and ecological.&nbsp;
The campaign feature our friends Zed, Thea, Alma and Ahta and is photographed by Monokel Eyewear co-founder Robert Sandgren at our workshop in the Stockholm archipelago.

Our new model ECLIPSE. Partially inspired by the aggressive shape of sports frames, but with a flat front and our signature sharp edges. Handcrafted from biodegradable Mazzucchelli acetate with premium Carl Zeiss lenses and 5-barrell stainless steel hinges with teflon coated screws.&nbsp;For the release, we commissioned photographer Freddie Payne to photograph a series of portraits on the UK coast.

Sunday morning in the archipelago outside of Stockholm. Our friend Banfa Jawla came by. We knew we needed some photos for our new acetate colour - Caramel. Banfa is a great photographer, but we hadn&rsquo;t really decided if he was there to take pictures or to be photographed himself. Anyways, we pretty soon realized that we felt more like making something than photographing something, so we went chasing for some fun materials to play around with.&nbsp;
We found a bunch of wire nets, and it was easy to see that they were a chair waiting to be made. We decided to make a garden chair, but a real one with actual plants (Hedera helix) as a part of the construction.&nbsp;
The Caramel acetate is made the same way we make all our acetate - entirely biodegradable, ecological and toxic-free. It&rsquo;s developed together with Italian producer Mazzucchelli, and the lenses are from Carl Zeiss. The colour is a little hard to describe in words. It&rsquo;s greenish and yellowish with a hint of brown, and the transparancy makes it easier to wear than you&rsquo;d think. Limited quantities for now, but possibly re-stocked again next summer if you like it.

Caramel and the garden chair

Falur&ouml;d on acid
In the heart of Sweden, a color has captivated the nation for centuries &ndash; "Falur&ouml;d," or Falun Red. Originating from the mining town of Falun, Falur&ouml;d has a history dating back to the 16th century. It owes its existence to the copper-rich Falun Mine, once the biggest in the world, where the pigment was extracted and used to protect and preserve wooden buildings from the harsh Scandinavian climate. Over time, the distinctive red color became synonymous with Swedish rural architecture.

In our &rdquo;Falur&ouml;d on acid&rdquo; capsule drop, we have increased the saturation of the traditional &rdquo;Falur&ouml;d&rdquo; by 20% - as if experienced on acid.
The acetate is developed with Mazzuchelli, the worlds most renowned acetate manufacturer, and it is (as always) entirely biodegradable and ecological.&nbsp;

New for this summer, our Chocolate acetate has a rich, deep brown color. It is a warm and earthy hue, resembling the color of melted dark chocolate or cocoa powder.
Just like our other acetates, it is 100% biodegradable and made from organic color powder mixed with raw cellulose acetate derived entirely from vegetable origins.
All Chocolate styles are available in limited quantities.

Swedish summer is the best day of the year

<h1>This spring we celebrate the wait. People in puffers in March shivering in wind protected corners soaking the first sun, pretending it&rsquo;s warm. Faces glued to the screen for the weather forecast, an endless wait for the weather.</h1>
<h1>&nbsp;</h1>
<h1>Stockholm is about us far to the north as Anchorage, Alaska. During summer, the sun moves to the side rather than up and down. Half the day is sunset, half is sunrise. Never really dark.</h1>
<h1>&nbsp;</h1>
<h1>Time is also different here. We wait for months, but for one or a few days each summer, time stops and a whole life is lived in one day. This collection is about that day, and the long wait to get there.</h1>

The collection is crafted with our signature ecological- and biodegradable Havana pattern as a foundation along with earthy tones of brown, yellow, dark green and black. Timeless and understated. A highlight addition to the collection is the new &rdquo;JET&rdquo; frame - a 70s inspired aviator frame. Orange, yellow and blue lenses compliment the collection to bright up the cloudiest of days.

Matador Beach

A pair of white frames with silver mirrored lenses were designed in collaboration with Voo Berlin. A skewed and mirrored sculpture was created by Swedish artist Axel Wannberg to accentuate the idea behind the project - to explore the concept of modern narcissism in a digital and hyper social society.

Made to last, but not forever.
Since our launch, we have used recycled acetate as the main material in&nbsp;our sunglasses. After extensive research and planning, we are now able to take our green mission further. Since the early fall of 2020, each and&nbsp;every Monokel Eyewear design has been made using a highly developed&nbsp;and innovative biodegradable acetate material. Our new acetate is still&nbsp;made mainly from cotton- and wood fibres, but it is now entirely&nbsp;biodegradable.
To ensure that we continue to live by our words, and as a&nbsp;foundation for continuous improvement, third party lab tests and factory&nbsp;audits are conducted with each production run. Our new biodegradable&nbsp;material has many environmental advantages, the most obvious one&nbsp;being that they&rsquo;ll eventually decompose rather than ending up in landfills&nbsp;or as microplastics in the oceans.
We have always highlighted the&nbsp;importance of a long product life cycle. But there&rsquo;s a limit to everything.&nbsp;Our glasses are still made to last, but not forever.
